You Need to Read This
As
many of you know (and have pointed out), I often use this space to talk
about myself. But in this issue I’m going to spend my time talking
about you and some other equally interesting stuff. First, as soon as
you get a chance, go to our website at www.americanwaymag.com and
browse around. You should notice immediately that it is new and way
improved! Many of your favorite stories, as well as our “UpFront” and
“DownLow” sections, among other things, can be found there.
But the thing you’ll probably be most excited to find there is the entry form for our annual Road Warrior Search.
Because we’re in our fifth year (can you believe it?), we’re changing up the contest in some interesting ways.
Here’s
the deal: The contest begins right now (and by that, I mean July 1),
and it ends promptly at 11:59 p.m. on August 31. Now, you may think, No problem — I have plenty of time. But we all know how fast time screams by. So I’d highly recommend getting started right now.
Those
of you who have entered in the past (or have thought about entering)
probably remember that we’ve always asked you to answer three essay
questions. This time, there is only one essay question.
New to
the contest is a cool photo montage. For this part of the contest, you
must identify places around the world (we want to see just how globally
savvy you are). To have a little fun, we’ve also added what is my
personal favorite, a Mad Lib that has been specially created for you
road warriors by the fine Mad Lib editors at Price Stern Sloan, an
imprint of Penguin Young Readers Group.
But those aren’t the
only changes. We’re also going to choose the winners differently.
Instead of selecting our top 20 finalists, interviewing them over the
phone, and then choosing five winners, we’re going to narrow it down to
five finalists from the get-go.
Then, from October 15 to
November 14, you guys, our readers, will be asked to visit our website,
read the five finalists’ contest entries, and vote for who you think
should be declared our third-prize winners, second-prize winner, and
Road Warrior MVP. Pretty cool, huh?
If you’re on the fence
about entering (although the Mad Lib alone should entice you), take a
look at the fabulous prizes you could win.
Our three third-place
winners will each receive a five-day, four-night vacation for two at
the Hilton Waikoloa Village in Hawaii from AmericanAirlines Vacations,
as well as a two-year subscription to T-Mobile HotSpot Wi-Fi Internet
service. The second-place winner will receive a Bose Lifestyle 48 home
entertainment system, a Bose SoundDock, and a pair of Bose QuietComfort
2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling headphones. And the grand-prize winner will
receive two million Hilton HHonors Bonus Points, good at participating
Hilton family hotels around the world, as well as a million American
Airlines AAdvantage miles.
But that’s not all! Our five winners will each receive a Toughbook CF-74 laptop computer, courtesy of Panasonic.
So turn to page 21 for all the necessary details.
There’s one thing that hasn’t changed this year: You can still upload a picture that best represents your road warrior life.
We can’t wait to hear from you and find out whether you’ll be this year’s Road Warrior MVP! Good luck.
