Acadian Railway Company | Montreal | Mexico’s Copper Canyon | East Coast

Explore It

by Elaine Glusac

ALL ABOARD
New Acadian Railway Is No Plain Train

The folks behind the South Orient Express that runs through Mexico’s Copper Canyon launch a new East Coast line this month with the Acadian Railway Company. Houston rail entrepreneur Randy Parten updated 47 vintage cars from the ’40s and ’50s and restored them to service on routes triangulating New York, Montreal, and New Brunswick. June-through-October itineraries take in New England’s North Woods, Maine, and Canada’s Maritime Provinces. Passengers spend up to five hours a day on the train, transferring to first-class hotels like Montreal’s Fairmont Queen Elizabeth overnight. Acadian vows not to book more than two-thirds full, ensuring passengers mingle comfortably between glass-domed dining cars and spacious assigned seats. Tours range from $799 for three days to $3,725 for 12. (866) 918-7246, www.acadianrailway.com
