Rob Brinkley PRINTS VALIANT
Regis, schmegis. That all-one-color-shirt-and-tie thing has worn out its welcome. Need you any more proof than GQ proclaiming boldly, “Now is the time for inspired Baroque combinations of patterned shirt and tie”? It’s true: We’re seeing a big push toward striped and checked shirts under ties of, well, stripes and checks. Even paisley neckwear is back on the best-dressed men we know. But it’s no free-for-all: You still need to pay attention to scale and pattern. For a fine-stripe shirt, choose a large geometric. On top of window- pane plaid, put a small-scale check. You get the idea. And if your combo makes your eyes blur, tie another one on.
