Hard Drives
by
American Way StaffAnyone who works on a less-than-cutting-edge computer knows this basic truth: The more you store, the slower it gets. But there’s a fairly simple remedy: Upgrade your computer’s workhorse, the internal HARD DRIVE. HITACHI TRAVELSTAR 7K60, around $300
ASSETS: It’s the fastest drive speed available on a laptop hard drive. IBM’s adding it as an internal drive in its notebook line.
LIABILITIES: Only offers 60GB of storage, much less than similarly priced desktop models.
BOTTOM LINE: While slower notebook storage is cheaper, to seriously bulk up performance, this is a top-of-the-line choice.

BOTTOM LINE: Save a few bucks, add lots of capacity — and performance — to your desktop.
