“I never imagined music being a career. I was just a suburban kid who loved listening to records to escape. I worked at a furniture warehouse all week long so I could play music on the weekends. In the ’80s, I was playing in these really noisy, hard-core punk bands. That was not a career option; it was just guys playing purely from the heart. With Nirvana, that success happened out of nowhere. I just laughed for a year. I thought, ‘Oh my God, this is ridiculous!’ “
