A Joyful Grind

But road warriors know that life on the road isn’t all a bowl of bonbons or even pizza slices. It’s also the 4 a.m. buzz of the alarm clock, the late taxis, the forgetting of an important support document for that presentation in Schenectady.
I talked to an acquaintance recently who was traveling on business to a city I love and know well. I was telling her of all the things she should do and places she should go when she interrupted me. “I’m going to be in meetings all day,” she said. What about the evenings, though, I wanted to say. But I could tell she would brook none of it. She was all business.
I thought, The world is too big to make small. Maybe you can’t rock and roll every night and party every day. But you can still have fun on the road even if the road is your job.
Now sit back, relax, and have a drink on me.
