Cooling off from
World Cup fever? Think again: You can catch the World Golf Championships–
Barbados World Cup from December 5 to 10. Chances are, there won’t be any head-butting at the Sandy Lane Resort Country Club Course, but the two-man teams from 24 nations will still be playing their hearts out for honor and glory, not to mention a $4 million purse.

Winning StreakFrom the inaugural tilt in 1953 in
Montreal (it was then called the Canada Cup), the
United States has won the World Cup trophy 23 times — although not since the pairing of
David Duval and Tiger Woods in 2000 in
Buenos Aires,
Argentina.
South Africa is in a distant second place, with five wins. The Welsh team of
Stephen Dodd and Bradley Dredge won in
Portugal last year. The U.S. pairings of
Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer and
Davis Love III and Fred Couples each won a record four times, Love and Couples for four years running (1992 to 1995).
Path to the PurseThe lowest stroke play score wins, but the teams get there by playing Four-ball on Thursday and Saturday (the best ball of the two teammates on each hole), and Foursomes on Friday and Sunday (the teammates hitting alternate shots). The tournament will be broadcast from three to six p.m. Eastern time each day, airing on ESPN Thursday and Friday and on
ABC Saturday and Sunday.
