Barry Bonds stands at home plate in San

hitter and five-time MVP - who last season, at age 38, surpassed
600 career home runs (a record matched only by
Hank Aaron, Babe
Ruth, and Willie Mays) - was literally born into
baseball. His
father is all-star outfielder Bobby Bonds, his godfather and idol
the legendary Willie Mays, and his distant cousin Reggie Jackson.
Ever since he attended Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo,
California, where he played baseball,
football, and basketball,
Barry Bonds was seen as a superstar. Today he still reigns, but in
a different style from most sports heroes: He doesn't relish
interviews or photo sessions. But thankfully he's never reticent to
speak out about the glories of his hometown, where he lives with
his wife,
Elizabeth, and their children, son Nikolai, 13, and

Nob Hill, because that's
where I got married. The Ritz has so many memories for me and it's
a very beautiful hotel, with the best of everything: rooms, food,
fitness center, service. If you're looking for a different feel,
the Clift is very happening. It has more of a modern feel. It was
built in 1915, but recently completely redone by Phillippe Starck,
and it's now one of the most popular hotels in the city, both to
stay and just to hang out at. Their bar, the Redwood Room, is once
again the hot spot in town."
