Back in the 1980s, a jet-black 635Csi coupe, with its unique front
and rear sport buckets, was the ride high-rollers craved; a Gordon
Gecko cruise-mobile that kept you looking good, even with SEC
investigators and 60 Minutes hot on your tail. But the market for
big-dollar coupes dipped along with the stock market and BMW
canceled the old 6-Series, much to the disappointment of its many
fervent admirers. Now that coupes are back, so is the 6-Series,
only this time, the 2004 comes armed with a V8 that packs about 100
horsepower more than the old 635Csi's straight six. The latest
generation of BMW's active-handling system will help keep you out
of trouble on the road. It's up to you to stay out of trouble in
the market.

Audi's next-generation A8 luxury sedan puts plenty of distance
between itself and its high-end rivals - and not just because it
packs a 450-horsepower punch. In addition to its 6-liter "W"
12-cylinder engine (a unique design that, in effect, fuses two V6
engines into a single unit), the 2005 A8 won't leave you spinning
your wheels in wet or snowy weather - thanks to its standard
full-time Quattro all-wheel-drive system. This is a feature you
won't find on the rear-drive-only BMW 760Li, Mercedes S600, and
other top-drawer luxo-cruisers that patrol the far left lane. Plus,
its voluptuous aluminum body adds to the car's bounding athleticism
- 0-60 in the 5-second range - and top speeds well into the
call-your-lawyer realm. This is one immensely powerful machine that
provides a cocoon of luxury and quiet The Donald would never wag
his finger at and say, "You're fired!" Amenities include an
adaptive-ride air suspension to buffer your buns from the outside
world, a six-speed tiptronic transmission, state-of-the-art
electronic navigation and stability aids, and leather as soft as a
Vicuna's underbelly.
