Prefer to head into summer rather than winter? Voted by Travel + Leisure readers as one of the top South American hotels, Explora Patagonia (pictured) plans to open 20 new guestrooms in December — a move designed to shorten the hotel’s lengthy waiting list. Farther north, Explora Resorts’ Hotel de Larache, a resplendent property in the remote Atacama region of northern Chile, has debuted the Casa del Aqua spa, with herbal hot-tub remedies, saunas, and a range of massage treatments you’ll want to soak up. Access both properties via Santiago. Prices begin at about $1,350 per person for three nights, and include all food, drinks, and guided explorations. www.explora.com
