Shtick: Disruptive innovation is the key to sustainable
profitable growth.
Bio: Christensen gained a great deal of notoriety for his
1997 book, The Innovator's Dilemma. It advanced the then-bold idea
that the Internet and other high-impact technologies would
initially falter but eventually dominate - forcing businesses that
do not adapt to risk obsolescence. It didn't take long for
cash-strapped start-ups and venture capitalists to glom onto the
idea. Despite the dot-com crash and a failed mutual fund venture
based on disruptive technology, Christensen has remained a thought
leader, and his popularity has not waned. He is cited by other
gurus and appears regularly in business magazines, including
BusinessWeek.
