DAVE MATTHEWS | PEARL JAM | European tour | Macy Gray

Music

by Malcom Mayhew

PEARL JAM
Domestic Bootlegs (Epic)

Last year, grunge’s elder statesmen released bootlegs of their 2K European tour. Now it’s America’s turn. Named for the city in which the shows were recorded, the discs document each of the band’s 48 U.S. dates from last year. Which means you’ll have 48 discs to choose from. Good luck.

ROD STEWART
Human (Atlantic)

For his latest disc, the blond bopper does what a lot of other rock vets have done: invited along a bunch of friends. Guest shots from Macy Gray, Slash (from Guns N’ Roses), and Mark Knopfler make Human one of Stewart’s most eclectic listens. The singer holds it all together via his unmistakable — and still powerful — rasp, something that’ll never change.

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND
Everyday (BMG/RCA)

Longtime fans of the DMB needn’t worry: The fourth studio disc from the rootsy pop outfit doesn’t veer off into any new sonic territory. Matthews’ baritone electric-guitar playing adds a few new textures to his world beat-pop stew, but that’s about as experimental as he gets. Thankfully.
