Just a half-mile beyond the Beltway, the new Music Center at Strathmore may give D.C.’s Kennedy Center­ a run for the spotlight. The North Bethesda, Maryland, concert hall, second home to the Baltimore ­Symphony Orchestra, occupies an 11-acre campus of rolling hills mimicked in the undulating roofline of the building and dominated by its six-story glass lobby. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma inaugurated the 2,000-seat auditorium this month. Headliners-to-come include violinist Itzhak Perlman, the Mingus Big Band, and National Philharmonic.
