If you are looking for a respite from the blustery cold, look no further than the theater. Heating up the screen in Waking Up in Reno are Billy Bob Thornton, Charlize Theron, Natasha Richardson, and Patrick Swayze, who star in this long-awaited film about two couples headed to a monster truck rally. What happens on the road is, well, a bit steamy for these pages.

For a more dramatic approach, check out John Q, which stars Denzel Washington as a man who takes a hospital’s emergency room hostage when they won’t give his son the heart transplant he needs because he doesn’t have insurance. This not-to-miss movie also stars Robert Duvall and Ray Liotta.
