Ellis Island | American Family Immigration History Center | Port of New York

Family

by Richelle Thomson

ELLIS ISLAND INFORMATION
This month, The American Family Immigration History Center will open its doors — and records — at Ellis Island and on the Internet at www.ellisislandrecords.org. The center will provide easy access to the ships’ passenger manifest records of the more than 17 million people who entered through the Port of New York and Ellis Island from 1892- 1924. Now, by entering a name, you’ll be able to access 11 fields of digitized information (no more microfilm searches), documenting your ancestor’s first steps in America. You’ll also be able to obtain a reproduction of the actual ship’s manifest on which your ancestor’s name appears, as well as a photo of the ship aboard which he/she arrived.
