The Gelato Surprise
by
Jim ShahinI guess what I’m saying is this: If you’re going to
Europe because you think it’s a fun place, you need to think again. The
United States is a fun place. You got your snake farms, your ESPN Zones, your Skee-Ball. As continents go,
North America is the party girl of the world.
Europe, on the other hand, is the bespectacled uncle of continents, sitting in a den by the fire, reading, the chime of an heirloom clock the only sound.
So go to Europe for the culture. Enjoy the duomos of
Italy, the architecture of
Paris, the theater of London’s West End.
But don’t be surprised if what you remember most clearly is an ice cream cone. Which, hard as it is to believe, beats a snake farm, hands down.
