For her 16th, and first studio album since 1998’s Fundamental, the nine-time Grammy winner considers this “above all, a band record.” The disc takes its name from a David Gray song and is full of the signature slide guitar (“Gnawin’ on It” and “Hear Me Lord”) and raucous feel (“Fool’s Game” and “Monkey Business”) that makes Raitt a living legend, and it proves why she deserved to be the first female to have a signature Fender Stratocaster. This is put-the-top-down-and-let-your-hair-flow-in-the-breeze material.

A four-disc box set walks listeners through some of the finest piano and early rock-and-roll work that Antoine “Fats” Domino has to offer. The classics (“Ain’t It a Shame,” “I’m Walkin’,” and “Blueberry Hill”) are here, but the real gems are found deep within the 100 tracks. A great compilation to take along on a road trip and get you geared up for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival running April 26 through May 5.

A critically acclaimed and much-talked-about release, even before the disc found a home with Nonesuch, this fourth
album (not including the Grammy-nominated Billy Bragg collaborative pair of releases) from Jeff Tweedy and company is worthy of the hype. Pushing the envelope of a rock/ country mix with experimental sounds, some may consider the 11 tracks an acquired taste. May I have seconds, please?
