by Ashley Jude Collie

The 2002 FIFA World Cup kicks into high gear from Japan and Korea May 31 and runs through June with the championship game on Sunday, June 30, in Yokohama — a game that will be watched by 1.5 billion fans worldwide. The 32 competitors include the U.S., which finished third in the inaugural championship in 1930, debutante Senegal, four-time winner Brazil, and France, the 1998 Cup winner. ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2 will televise all 64 games. Check local listings for specific matches and times. — C.
