Is it worth flying into Greensboro, N.C., driving 90 minutes into Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, then plunking down $200 to play the Primland Resort’s Highland Course? The answer is yes — and doubly so if you’re planning a stay at the site’s tony new lodge, which offers guests a spa, an observatory and lowered green fees. Word of mouth has been spreading about the Donald Steel–designed course at Primland, which was long a wilderness retreat and a hunting reserve on 12,000 wooded acres. After all, when a course is as much of a strategic and panoramic feast as this one, it’s hard to keep it a secret. www.primland.com
