GO WITH THE FLOW

It takes a special breed to want to go near an active volcano. Kilauea’s long-erupting volcano breached Hawaii Volcanoes National Park’s eastern border, sending rivers of red-hot magma over cliffs into steaming seas. You can catch the show by driving the newly opened 2.5-mile road to the park, located in the Big Island’s Puna region. At road’s end, hike 20 minutes over rugged lava fields to the designated site for safe views of the flow, most vivid at sundown.
