Beyoncé Knowles' Houston
by
Mark SealYou've seen her in the record stores,
and now on the big screen starring in Austin Powers in
Goldmember, but whenever thIs singer/actress has some
downtime, she heads down-home to Texas. Here's where you'll
find beautiful Beyoncé Knowles hanging out in her hometown of
Houston.
These days, Beyoncé Knowles is a dual superstar as both an actress,
currently starring as Foxxy Cleopatra opposite
Mike Myers in his
third Austin Powers hit, Goldmember, and as the lead singer of
Destiny's Child, the chart-topping group she led to international
stardom. But she is still what she's always been: a Houstonian. For
it was there in 1990 that her father enlisted 8-year-old Beyoncé
and three other young girls to form an R&B group. After gaining
a huge local following, the group won a record contract for the
first Destiny's Child album. Now 20, with more movie offers pouring
in and her first solo album almost completed, Beyoncé's gone
global. But at heart she's never far from home. Here's a weekend
with Beyoncé Knowles in
Houston, the city where it all began.
FRIDAY
LODGING
"The St. Regis in the Galleria area is really nice; the sheets are
really soft and the beds are so comfortable. The Westin in the
Galleria is also nice. There are two of them now. The Galleria is
right downstairs, and that's the best place for me in Houston. The
Galleria has every- thing for everybody: It has all of the top
designers, an ice-skating rink, and a
food court with all kinds of
restaurants."
DINNER
"The
Cheesecake Factory has the best menu. I stopped eating red
meat, but just recently I had the steak there again after not
eating it for three years, because you just can't resist it. And
the cheesecake - they have all kinds. I usually go to Pappasito's
for Mexican food. The fajitas are really good. They have the best
seasoning. The environment is really cool, too. Lopez also has some
of the best Mexican food in Houston, with fast service."
