The Paperless Chase
by
Jeff SiegelAgain, this is not exceptional or unusual technology. Companies as
small as $5 million to $10 million in sales can buy software
specifically designed for businesses their size. It's also
possible, as Daydots did, to purchase sophisticated software and
grow into it, adding functions as needed. Another solution is
outsourcing - finding a company like ClientLogic that supplies
distribution and warehouse services. Kenerson says its Columbus
facility focuses on mid-market companies, as well as Fortune 1000
companies with $250 million to several billion in revenues.
"I think you're going to see what we're doing coming to more
companies as time goes on," says Daydots' Milliorn. "I know going
paperless hasn't been that popular on the commercial side, but it
will come. It just makes sense. I pay bills online at home. So why
shouldn't I do so for my business?"

getting rid of the paper trail
fed up with filing cabinets? tired of paying someone to store boxes
of documents? are piles of papers driving you crazy?
never fear. it's possible to take steps toward a paperless
office, no matter how daunting it seems. just keep these tips in
mind:
start slowly. you don't have to do everything at once, says
chad mccoy, a
salt lake city attorney who focuses on internet
technology and law. he advises clients to pick a day to start the
process - by scanning documents and the like - and box up the old
paper afterward. "then, after seven years, just throw the boxes
away," he says.
