JOHN CHO cannot hide how anxious he is about the release of this month’s Star Trek, the blockbuster prequel to the original television series that’s set to reboot the sci-fi-film franchise. The pressure isn’t entirely due to lifetime Trekkies’ high expectations for the film or to Cho’s taking a career leap by graduating from comedic fare like Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and stepping into the shoes of Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu.
Cho just wants to talk about the movie already.
“It’s been driving me nuts,” the 36-year-old says. “The longer it goes, the more questions I get -- questions I’m not allowed to answer.”
The new
Enterprise gang, which includes
Heroes’ Zachary Quinto as Spock and
Shaun of the Dead’s Simon Pegg as Scotty, can thank
Star Trek director J.J. Abrams for the gag order. Also the creator of
Lost and
Cloverfield, Abrams is famous for keeping mum about his projects’ plots. In the meantime, Cho can offer only a fake spoiler. “At the end of the movie, we destroy the Death Star,” he kids, referring to that other big-screen sci-fi juggernaut. All joking aside, however, the power of the project isn’t lost on Cho.
