SATURDAY
BREAKFAST "The Castle at Summer Place is a bed-and-breakfast
in an English-Tudor house with great views of
Lake Tahoe and the
mountains. The inside of the inn looks like an English castle, but
the most interesting aspect is that
it was built in the 1970s by disco queen
Donna Summer when she was
at the height of her fame. She would rent it out to people like
Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. They serve incredible
breakfasts."
THE LAKE "Lake Tahoe's number-one attraction is, of course,
Lake Tahoe. It's the biggest alpine lake in the U.S. It's set in
some pretty incred-ible mountains - the Sierra
Nevada range.
Two-thirds of the lake sits in California; one-third sits in
Nevada. And because the two sides are very different, you can
experience a wide range of things to do. The
California side of the
lake provides the beautiful natural setting for skiing,
snowboarding, hiking, and fishing. The Nevada side has the
opposite: casinos and big-name entertainment. When you visit Lake
Tahoe, all of your needs are taken care of, as you switch between
the two sides. Most of my time is spent on the California
side."
WATERSPORTS "The last time I went to Lake Tahoe, it was with
a bunch of friends to relax for a few days. Being from New York, I
appreciate the peaceful setting it has to offer. It's a place where
you are able to escape during all seasons. For me, the best part of
Lake Tahoe is that you can do watersports all year-round:
water-skiing, windsurfing,
kayaking,
sailing, jet sailing, and
parasailing. Boating is very popular, and there are several launch
ramps, like Zephyr Cove and Tahoe Keys Marina, where you can rent a
boat for fishing or water-skiing or just plain cruising. Or you can
just sit on the beach. Lake Tahoe is rimmed with beaches, where you
can swim, sail, dive, explore, or just lie in the sun."
