North Word

PLANE STRETCHING
In my October column, I addressed stretching as a general addition to good health. Try these exercises — in your airplane seat — for a quick midflight tuneup.

1. Neck — Sit up straight, slowly bend neck forward, backward, and from side to side.

2. Hips — While seated, cross the left leg over the right leg so that the left ankle is just above the right knee. Using the palm of your hands, press the left knee in a downward position. Repeat on the right side.

3. Shoulders — With your left arm extended, cup the left elbow in your right hand and pull your arm across your chest. Repeat on the right side. Finish with shoulder rolls front and back to release neck tension.
