Roswell, New Mexico: The Truth Is Still Out There.
by
Jack BoulwareWhen local artists and ufologists Amy Ward and her husband, Free, close up their tattoo shop/glass gallery (A-ok Custom Tattoo and 2RavensGlass), they like to take a drive 10 miles east to Bottomless Lakes State Park. “Are you ready for this?” Free asks. “It’s a saltwater beach in New Mexico! It’s rumored to connect to Carlsbad Caverns, 75 miles south.”
Roswell Museum and
Art Center director Laurie Rufe might celebrate the end of a busy workweek with a glass of Galactic Vino Cabernet Sauvignon at the Pecos Flavors Winery and tasting shop. “On Friday nights they have live entertainment -- bands from
Boston to
Seattle. It’s wonderful.” she says. “They only serve
New Mexico wines and beers.” When not running the museum, Rufe also coordinates the UFO Festival’s alien-costume contests. “We do the pets in the morning, and the humans, or humanoids, in the afternoon. The pets are hysterical,” she says.
