With the exception of resort courses like Stoke and Stapleford Parks, most courses around London are private yet allow outside play. Few accept nonmembers on weekends, though, so plan accordingly. Some require jackets and/or ties if you plan to eat in the clubhouse, and a few request a current handicap certificate or letter of introduction from your club pro. While golf courses ring London, the best are in the southwest: Stoke Park, Walton Heath, St. George’s Hill, Wentworth, and Sunningdale are all near each other, Heathrow Airport, and the city’s West End and can be reached from London via taxi. Stapleford is farther away and best reached by train. —
