Martin Luther King Jr. Day is upon us, and what better way to remember what he stood for than by watching the Warner Bros.’ miniseries Roots 25th Anniversary Edition, being released on DVD January 15 — 25 years after its debut in 1977. Winning nine Emmy awards, five TV Critics Circle awards, and a Peabody Award, this highly acclaimed drama exposes a piece of American history that will never be forgotten.

Also, catch NBC’s one-hour documentary celebrating Roots’ 25th anniversary, which airs at 8 p.m. ET on January 18. An appropriate kickoff to the King holiday weekend, Roots — Celebrating 25 Years offers more than 65 interviews of people sharing their memories of the miniseries, as well as interviews with members of the original cast including Ed Asner, Leslie Uggams, and Dr. Maya Angelou. Additional celebrities such as Larry King and Will Smith will add to the commentary.
