Year of Williamson

Matthew Williamson
Designer Matthew Williamson has had a busy 2009 thus far. In February (during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, no less), he opened his first U.S. flagship store in New York’s Meatpacking District. A 2,500-square-foot fashionista’s dream space, the store has curving reflective walls and, as a nod to the inspiring role that Mother Nature plays in Williamson’s designs, a garden. He also debuted a bright, bold accessories line replete with luxe clutches, hobos, beach bags, shoes, belts, and jewelry that perfectly complements his clothing line. But the best and brightest is still to come, as later this month Williamson is launching the first of two limited-edition capsule collections for the hip retail store H&M. Full of affordable pieces that won’t break the bank like his haute couture designs do, the first collection is exclusive to women while the second will mark Williamson’s first foray into menswear design as well as modeling: He’s the face of the line’s H&M print and television ad campaigns. Like we said -- it’s been a busy year. Matthew Williamson Boutique, 415 West 14th Street, (212) 255-9881, www.matthewwilliamson.com. To find an H&M store near you, visit www.hm.com. By Anna Fialho
