The folks behind Napa Valley’s luxurious Auberge du Soleil take their high standards south of the border by opening the tasteful Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas this month. The latest Mexican compound to upscale the once-sleepy Cabo, Esperanza’s 56 oceanfront guestrooms perched atop the Punta Ballena bluffs overlook two private Sea of Cortez swimming coves. Casual but plush rooms incorporate handcrafted furnishings and local art. Take the agua pasada — a waterfall and steam cave series of baths — which is the signature treatment of Esperanza’s deluxe spa.
