Jill BeckerBRING UP THE CURTAINYou’ve heard of off-Broadway? Well, this is way off. But on your next trip to
Milwaukee, you need to make a point to travel 30 miles west of the city to tiny Genesee Depot. There you’ll find
TEN CHIMNEY, the former home of theater legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. This amazingly restored 60-acre estate, which is steeped in literary history and which was occupied by its famous residents from the mid ’20s to early ’80s, is finally opening its doors for public tours beginning May 26. With each step you take, you’ll discover mementos from some of the era’s most important actors, authors, and other artists — including a first-edition book inscribed by Edna Ferber, letters penned by
Laurence Olivier, and cushions needlepointed by Helen Hayes. It’s a beautiful and well-preserved piece of history you can’t afford to miss. $23-$35. (262) 968-4110,
