James Mayfield MTV TO BRING WORLD-FAMOUS MUSICAL ARTISTS TO THE WORLD'S MOST UNIQUE PLACESFor those of you who think MTV isn’t for your generation, think again. A new program is hitting the
cable network, and the target market appears to be decidedly more mature.
MUSIC IN HIGN PLACES is an hour-long program with an interesting formula: Take famous musical artists (Alanis Moris-sette,
Shawn Colvin, Wynonna Judd, Brian McKnight), send them to a worldly destination to interact with the locals, and film them. A little like Survivor, without the conniving castaways.
Scheduled for an initial 12 episodes to begin airing on MTV in the next month or so, the show debuted on DIRECTV last October and has exclusive content on MSN at
www.musicinhighplaces.msn.com. Packed with beautiful scenery and new versions of each artist’s music (think a lot of acoustic guitars), this may leave your teen screaming, “What happened to my MTV?”
Future episodes include Collective Soul in
Morocco, LeAnn Rimes in
Mexico, and Wyclef Jean in
Spain. — J.M.
