MONUMENTAL NEW MUSEUMS

Pack your bags. Two new trek-worthy museums demand it:
Washington, D.C.’s most clandestine career gets public theater in the new International Spy Museum. Repository of international intrigue, the Spy showcases the famed WWII German code-maker Enigma, a Soviet shoe transmitter, and an East German camera that photographed through walls, among other once-secret technologies. Tacoma, Washington, cements its reputation for blown glass in the new waterfront Museum of Glass. Designed by architect Arthur Erickson, the attraction features rotating exhibits as well as a “hot shop,” or working glass studio, with 140 viewer seats. Glass master Dale Chihuly lends his fanciful works to a 500-foot bridge that ushers visitors from downtown to the museum. (253) 396-1768, www.museumofglass.org. —
