Culture Club

Carnaval. Fasnacht. Entroido. Carnevale. By any name, carnival is a pre-Lent shindig celebrated in many cultures. Catch eight of them in the act in “Carnaval,” a new exhibit of 49 costumes and 80 photos at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The elegant courtiers of Venice and harlequins of Switzerland join Mexico’s comic cowboys, Brazil’s flamboyance, and “Rex,” the king of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras, in a global free-for-all through August 28.
