"There are a lot of great parks, like Warner Parks. There's acres
and acres of walking and hiking trails, baseball fields, open areas
for picnics, horseback riding, etc. There's also Cheekwood, which
is an art museum and botanical garden. It has great garden exhibits
and activities for kids of all ages."
LUNCH
"Monell's is a fantastic restaurant in an old house. A real family
restaurant. The tables are very large, seating from 10 to 16. When
the
food is brought out, you pass it around the table. It reminds
you of dinner at grandma's house. They have great fried chicken."
CULTURE
"If I could only do one thing in
Nashville, I'd go to the gigantic
Country Music Hall of Fame, which has every type of exhibit
imaginable to honor the incredible history of country music. Then
I'd go to the new Frist Center for the Visual Arts, which is also
downtown. It has an area featuring local artisans and also plays
host to many exhibits, featuring Picasso, Georgia O'Keeffe, and
others."
SHOPPING
"There are some great antique stores in Franklin, a perfect little
town 20 minutes outside of Nashville with 19th-century buildings,
Victorian cottages, and a downtown area listed on the National
Register of Historic Places. For clothes, there's Jamie's, which is
near Belle Meade Plantation and is a favorite boutique of
Nashville's ladies, or one of the malls. What can you buy in
Nashville that you can't buy anywhere else? Goo Goo Clusters, the
famous candy made of peanuts, caramel, marshmallow, and milk
chocolate that was invented here. It got its name when somebody
told the inventor, the candy is so good 'you'll ask for it from
birth.'"
