"I was discovered at The Bluebird Cafe. I wore a black dress and a
hat. I was singing background vocals for a songwriter here in
Nashville named Gary Burr. We performed two shows that night and
Martha Sharp, a vice president at Warner Bros. Records Nashville,
saw the first show and approached me afterwards and asked if I
wanted to be a solo artist. I said yes, of course, and she wanted
to hear a tape. I think I gave her a tape with some demos I had
sung for Gary. She called me a couple weeks later and offered me a
development deal with Warner Bros. We set out to find the right
team of producers, songwriters, manager, etc. Once they were in
place, the development deal became a valid record deal with money
to record an album. And the rest, as they say, is history."
