New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art

Explore It

AN IMPRESSIVE BODY OF WORK

If you think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, behold this show. Extreme Beauty: The Body Transformed, a new exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, explores how the human body has been manipulated over time to meet ever-changing physical ideals. The display runs through March 17 and zeroes in on various zones of the body, including the neck, shoulders, waist, feet, and, uh, derrière. Featured are some of the fashions we’ve worn on our frames, from a 16th-century iron corset to a modern-day motorcycle-parts bustier to the amazing bustle dress at left, designed by Yohji Yamamoto.
