Ben HewittKING OF THE HILLPowered by a 1,500-watt electric motor, the 59-pound, U.S.-made
Voloci’s electric motorbike (888-353-4464 or
www.voloci.com) has a top speed of 30 mph and will cover approximately 25 miles between charges, as determined by rider weight and penchant for speed. Depending on battery pack, recharging takes six hours (with the heavier sealed-lead acid battery), or half that (with the nickel metal hydride system). Each charge eats about 5 cents worth of
electricity. True, the Voloci won’t take you to the top of the Tour de
France podium. Then again, there’s probably not an outlet up there, anyway. (Cost: $1,995 with sealed-lead acid battery system; $2,495 with nickel metal hydride battery system).
