Nonsuch Island | Bermuda Biological Station | David Wingate

Experience It

by Elaine Glusac

NATURE CALLS

Bermuda, which limits tourists to scooters rather than cars and bans neon ads, boasts about its green side. For a look at that wild(erness) side, before the knee socks set took over, hop a boat to Nonsuch Island, where the Bermuda Biological Station for Research holds tours. You might even see the indigenous cahow bird, which has been saved from extinction (lucky bird). The pristine island-lab offers Thursday morning hikes with conservationist Dr. David Wingate for $75. What a cool, non-touristy way to get a feel for the area. Reserve a space at (441) 297-1880. — E.G
