"My favorite part of being on the road is the opportunity it
provides me to learn about different people and cultures. I then
get to bring this back to my children and excite them about all the
wonders that lie beyond our front yard. Then when we get to go
places together, they are prepared to see and experience those
people and cultures from a perspective of openness, not
intimidation. My 10- and 8-year-olds found it exciting to navigate
the subways of
Paris and try to speak French to order their food.
They got a charge out of the differences and similarities of how
people respond to the fun of Disneyland Paris as compared to Walt
Disney World
Orlando. They are preparing themselves to be members
of the global community. If I didn't have these miles on the road
myself, I don't believe I would have encouraged my children to look
at diverse peoples and their cultures with this openness."

"I have a photo album in my house called 'A Room with a View.' In
it I have pictures of all the views from my hotel rooms, good or
bad. I write down the place and date on the picture and something
that was special to me or my business that I experienced on that
trip. I plan to show this to my son once he grows older (he's 2
now) in order to show him the places I have been to, but also to
convey the message that, outside of every window, there is
something to experience and learn."

"If I were training someone to be a Road Warrior, I'd teach them to
stay connected to their families. Our [Lotus/IBM] team uses PC
cameras and does face time with their kids via electronic
meetings."

"When my children were small, I would call home a couple of times a
day to check on them. We would choose a book before I left and we
would each have a copy and I would read to them over the phone
every evening."
