January in Park City translates to one thing: the Sundance Film Festival. Robert Redford’s baby turns 25 this year, which means filmmakers, celebs, and movie buffs from around the world will gather to see the hottest movies in one of America’s coolest cities. “Karleen’s UPTOWN FARE [8] -- it’s a great place to meet for lunch, even on the busiest days in town. It’s quirky in every way, from Karleen’s no-nonsense order taking to the very low ceilings to the great whole turkey that Karleen roasts in her home [every] morning for sandwiches that afternoon. Also, go to ALIGN SPA [4] for the most consistently great massage therapists in town. Other places have good therapists, too, but every one I’ve ever had at Align -- a dozen at last count -- has been great.”

“There is a great sports pub called COACHES SPORTS BAR &; GRILL [2] at the Park City Racquet Club. The menu is simple but tasty, and they serve brunch on the weekends. The pub is equipped with a 108-inch big-screen TV, numerous fl at-screen TVs, pool tables, and arcade games. And since the Racquet Club is a primary hub for films during the Sundance Film Festival, Coaches opens at seven a.m. and closes at midnight in order to cater to the early and late-night film-festival attendees.”

“One of my favorite places in Park City is POISON CREEK TRAIL [IN CITY PARK] [3]. … It’s a year-round escape from the hustle and bustle of Main Street. As you wander down it, you will encounter walkers, bikers, Rollerbladers, moms with strollers, and dog walkers. [You’ll also come across] the SOUND GARDEN [3], a rustic musical sculpture that always has folks of all ages making music -- even if they have no talent. [The park is] a great place to watch a Friday-night outdoor Sundance movie or to see a concert of Park City mayor Dana Williams’s band, Motherlode.”

“THE EATING ESTABLISHMENT [7] on Main Street serves breakfast until four p.m. and has a wonderful staff. It’s very cozy and real and is one of the oldest restaurants on Main Street. Get a seat by the window, [because] it’s the perfect spot to experience the full Park City Main Street ambience. You’ll get a view of the EGYPTIAN THEATRE [5], original home to the Sundance Film Festival, and the RED BANJO PIZZA PARLOUR [6], one of the most unpretentious places in town. They have free outdoor concerts in the Resort Village all year, like the New Year’s concert and the Spring Grüv [March 27 through April 5]. And in winter, the rugged terrain [of the Canyons’] Ninety-Nine 90 -- that also refers to the elevation -- is my favorite [for skiing].”
