Prince

For Peat’s Sake

by Anthony Dias Blue
Page:

Most connoisseurs put Laphroaig near the top of their list of distinctive whiskies. Prince Charles, who shows off his legs in a kilt from time to time, is a big Laphroaig fan; the distillery holds a warrant to keep Laphroaig flowing to the royal snifter. Laphroaig maintains its own peat beds on the island. This Islay peat contains not only moss and heather, but seaweed, which partially explains the iodine-laced taste. The 15-Year-Old is warm and smoky, and is permeated with the trademark Laphroaig reek.
