Dallas Stars’ center
Mike Modano is taking to the ice this season in the brand-new
American Airlines Center. At 31, Modano’s already racked up franchise records, including most goals, most points, and most game-winning goals. Here are his thoughts on the ice ahead.
AW: What do you think about the new playing surface?
MM: With new cooling designs, the ice is harder and faster. The pipes are closer together than at Reunion, which will help with speed, especially in the warmer months.
AW: Anything you’ll miss about Reunion Arena?
MM: The nostalgia and all of the good memories. Reunion was our home since moving to Dallas from
Minnesota. We won a
Stanley Cup playing in Reunion and the fans were always loud and into the game.
AW: What’s up with the five o’clock shadow you always seem to sport during a game?
MM: Coincidence. I don’t shave every day, but it isn’t anything I do for any special reason.
AW: Any ritual you’ll bring to the new arena to help pump you up for the game?
MM: Usually we will listen to hard rock music in the locker room.
