Humor Me
by American Way StaffWe asked three famous funnymen to share their thoughts on comedy. By J. Rentilly
MIKE MYERS,
STAR OF THE LOVE GURU:
I like silly, you know what I mean? I like it a lot, and I don’t apologize for it. It could be a smart laugh or a dumb laugh -- if it makes me laugh, it’s good enough for me.
SETH ROGEN, STAR OF KNOCKED
UP AND PINEAPPLE EXPRESS:
I’m not one of those comedy guys who’s snobbish and doesn’t laugh at the rest of the world. I laugh at everything. Comedy is everywhere -- it’s in the poop jokes and in the funeral. It all makes me laugh. My job is to convey what I think is funny to people who may not see the world the way I do.
SETH MACFARLANE,
CREATOR OF FAMILY GUY:
Honestly, I still don’t know if I’m funny. I operate, as a lot of comedy writers do, on insecurity in what I’m doing. Don’t get me wrong: I’m confident in [Family Guy] and in the show as a comedy entity. But I’m still in the writer’s room every day, pitching jokes that I don’t know have any merit to them. I’m always going for the kill without knowing if my gun is loaded.
