Mark SealLUNCH "I recommend The Swiss Chalet for fondue. It's been
there since the '50s, has Swiss artifacts on the walls, and looks
like you've stepped into, well, a Swiss chalet. It's so authentic
that much of the clientele is European. They've got all of the
various fondues, as well as German sausages, steaks, salmon, and
great desserts. Another place I like to eat at is this amazing
pizza place called Pasquale's in South
Lake Tahoe. The dough is
made fresh daily, hand-tossed, and cooked in a wood-burning brick
oven. Sprouts is another favorite of mine. It's a health-food
restaurant. They have organic sandwiches, tempeh burgers, and great
smoothies. It's really popular with hikers, bikers, and
skiers."
SKIING "There are 28 ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe area, but
my favorite for
skiing and
snowboarding is the Kirkwood Ski Resort.
What drew me to Kirkwood was that all my friends ski in that area.
Kirkwood has a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere, which I love. But
the best thing about Kirkwood is that it is known for the driest
snow. It's great for snowboarding, because it seems to be the least
crowded with the most snow after a good storm. A typical day for me
is to start my morning by meeting my buddies at Kirkwood's ski
lodge. From there, we would snowboard all day."
APRÈS SKI "We'd end our ski day by 4, then go to the Off the
Wall Bar & Grille at the base of Kirkwood Mountain and have
some beers. Off The Wall is a great place to visit after skiing. It
has an incredible panoramic view of the mountain. During the day,
you can sit in the outdoor patio and get a great view of the skiers
and snowboarders coming down the hill. When the sun goes down, the
temperature drops 20 degrees and we all assemble inside, where
there are a bunch of wooden tables. It's very spacious, full of
windows."
