VAIL, COLORADO
Vail's kids programs cut this megaresort down to a manageable
child-size. With three locations, the Small World Playschool offers
slopeside sitting for infants and toddlers. Vail's ski and
snowboard instruction programs, headquartered at Lionshead and
Golden Peak, are tailored for 3-year-olds through teens. Mini Mice
is for potty-trained 3-year-olds, Mogul Mice for 4-year-olds to
kindergartners, and Super Stars for children who can ride lifts and
are mountain skiers. Kids 7 to 12 can take ski or snowboarding
lessons. For the whole family, Vail's Adventure Ridge, accessed by
gondola (free in the evening), has ski biking, snow tubing, ice
skating,
laser tag, and more, which all adds up to a matchless
arrangement of family entertainment. Plus, a chaperoned evening at
Adventure Ridge is designed to give parents some time on their
own.
Special for kids: Vail's ski-through theme parks for small
children are as imaginative as they come, while snowboarders love
the terrain features and half pipes. Vail's all about catering to
the kiddos with children's trail maps, kids-only rental shops,
phone lines dispensing kids' and teens' activity information, and
several kids-only ski and
snowboarding shops for gear and clothing.
There's also a children's snowmobiling racetrack, which is designed
for mini-snowmobiles that travel at a kid's pace. SKE-Cology,
developed in cooperation with the Colorado Division of Wildlife and
U.S. Forest Service, teaches youths about the environment while
exploring mountain trails.
