Summer Workin’, Had Me A Blast

He is 15. This summer, he is hoping to work his first real job. He has done babysitting and lawn mowing and dog walking. But he is applying for a real get-up, go-there job. He’s applied as a bag boy at our nearby supermarket, as a worker at a music store, and as a ticket taker at a local movie theater.

This summer, he will begin a scrapbook of his own memories. And he will learn enduring lessons about life.

Lesson number one: Bosses never know what they’re talking about. Your goal in life is to become a boss.

Lesson number two: Jobs are a drag, except when there are people who like you and will hang out with you after work and talk with you about what a drag the job is.

Lesson number three: Working is better than not working, especially if you get to collect at a house with blond teenage girls.

I have every expectation that my son will remember his summer job fondly.
