Bio: If anyone elevated business guruism to near priesthood
- and built it into a multibillion-dollar industry - it is Peters.
His first book, In Search of Excellence (coauthored with Bob
Waterman) became a white-hot bestseller in 1982, and Peters
parlayed the publicity into near-cult status. Audiences lapped up
his management-theory-for-the-masses approach. A couple of decades
and several bestsellers later, he continues to circle the globe,
serving as a sort of antiguru guru - ranting and raving on
corporate myopia and mindlessness. Some have knocked Peter's
penchant for reinventing himself and his message, but he remains
undaunted. "There are almost certainly other people with far more
intriguing ideas than I have, but they aren't as noisy as I am and
they don't fulfill a need the way I do," he explains.
