$8.42 BILLION That’s how much money Americans spent on movie rentals (DVD and video) last year according to the Video Software Dealers Association. Compare that to the $8.38 billion in box office revenue that was taken in and it’s easy to see how studios are able to pay the salaries of the Jim Carreys, Julia Roberts, and Arnold Schwarzeneggers of the world. Show us the money. Makes the phrase "straight to video” sound a lot more appealing.
