Yasha Mazur may be an itinerant magician in late-19th-century Poland, but he could be any businessman with temptations on the road. Instead of a cell phone and beeper, he travels with a parrot and monkey, but the effect is much the same. How the magical charmer deals with his life’s greatest challenge makes this one of the Nobel Prize winner’s most appealing novels. And Keith’s voice is as clear and satisfying as kreplach soup.
